Gasly: “It was far from perfect”

A week after giving up at Hockenheim (Germany) after seeing his teammate Max Verstappen impose oneself, Pierre Gasly still struggles to compare with the Dutchman.

Max Verstappen offered himself the first pole of his career at the Hungarian GP by relegating the Frenchman to 9 tenths, the latter taking 6th position a good distance from the Ferrari de Charles Leclerc et Sebastian Vettel.

“I suffered a bit with the tires during all qualifying and I didn’t manage to complete a real good lap, explains the pilot Red Bull. I made several small mistakes in my last attempt and it was far from perfect. I'm not very satisfied because I at least had the potential to compete with the Ferraris, even if Max (Verstappen) and the Mercedes were too far away. »

Even if he is starting to get annoyed about questions concerning his future, Pierre Gasly wanted to congratulate his teammate for his performances.

“Max could have been on pole many times in the past and it’s no surprise to see her on pole here, he admits. He did a very good job and he proves that he is one of the best drivers on the grid at the moment. I am very happy for him because he deserves this pole. I have to learn from him to better exploit the potential of the car and use my experience within the team. I hope to get the Ferraris back into racing by taking them back with the strategy. »
