Gasly confident despite his engine problem

The old demons almost reappeared in the camp Red Bull from the first day of the Australian Grand Prix when Pierre Gasly dropped a « Loss of power” (Loss of power) in his radio at the end of Free Practice 2.

« I had a little loss of power on the last lap. We preferred to return to the stand as a precaution. You have to look at the data (to see the condition of the Honda engine block. Editor’s note) », the Frenchman simply explained Friday late afternoon.

The Japanese firm later confirmed that its propulsion unit was out of danger. More fear than harm for the Normand's Red Bull, which still evolved in front of the Ferrari (4th in the second session, eight tenths behind Lewis Hamilton).

" I think that the Ferraris hide their game a little. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw them fighting ahead of tomorrow, tempers the former pilot Toro Rosso. It was a good day overall. We worked well with the car. There is still work to be done but I feel more and more comfortable. We will continue to work because tomorrow will be important. »

Pierre Gasly was not worried after the first session, which ended in eighth place, almost a second and a half behind the leaders. “I am still learning about the package available to me. The most important point of the day was to work well between the two sessions. Besides, I felt better in the car in FP2 rather than in FP1. »
