Pierre Gasly certainly signed one of the great performances of the weekend. The Frenchman finished the Brazilian Grand Prix in 7th position, an almost unexpected result given his starting position. Started 15th – qualified 13th but penalized two places on the grid for having slowed down too much in the pit lane, during qualifying on Friday – the driver Alpine was first able to take advantage of the mayhem of the first round by gaining two positions on the grid of the restart, before implementing an almost perfect strategy to climb back into the top 7.

After a long first relay huddled in the DRS zone of Carlos Sainz, the Norman then offered himself the scalp of the two Mercedes, in more difficulty than ever. On arrival, theAlpine No. 10 finished only six seconds behind the Spaniard in front of him. Result: six good points scored by Pierre Gasly, obviously delighted with his race at the finish of the Grand Prix.

“I'm very happy, I would say it's one of our best performances of the season! It was a very difficult race to manage with multiple stints and pit stops, but the whole team did a great job today making the right decisions and executing the stops well, underlined the Habs, thanking Alpine. For the team, seventh and tenth, it's clearly a good performance, especially after starting from the back of the grid. We competed with Carlos [Sainz] and the two Mercedes throughout the race, so it's a good step forward from yesterday. »

Gasly already focused on Las Vegas

Alpine was therefore rewarded for a risky choice this weekend, which consisted of tuning the car for the race with less aerodynamic downforce and therefore, a better top speed. Pierre Gasly posted the best Vmax of the weekend in São Paulo. Despite the lack of challenge for the French team, which will finish in 6th place among the Manufacturers, the Norman wants to continue to attack to prepare as best as possible for 2024.

“The next meeting is Las Vegas, which will undoubtedly be an interesting experience, says Pierre Gasly. I'm looking forward to it, as I always am to new races, and it's up to us to go into this race as well prepared as possible and give our best on the track. »
