Like in Monaco or Paul Ricard, Pierre Gasly completed his qualifying session of Grand Prix of Styria in 6th place, leaving the Norman in an ideal position to aim for big points again or even better in the race tomorrow.

The training resident Alpha Tauri believes at the end of the session to have maximized the potential of his car, particularly in the face of competition that some have a higher top speed.

“I'm really happy, because I don't think we could have done better, Pierre Gasly told us. It was a very good ride. I made my first attempt without aspiration and I knew that on my own I was losing too much in the straights compared to Norris Above all. They are really very fast in a straight line this weekend.

On the second lap, I asked to be behind a car to have the slipstream. I think it was the ideal tour. Sixth, less than two tenths from the front row, is incredible for us.

We managed to get through to Q3 and the positive point of the session was getting there with just one set of tires. This shows our progress because this has never happened before. »

Despite his concerns with the Power Unit Honda in FP2 yesterday, Pierre Gasly admits not to have been too bothered by the delay compared to the program usually carried out during the sessions.

“There are always things we are tweaking, specifies the French. What I normally do after FP2, I did before qualifying, but it didn't impact us. Being 5th, 6th in qualifying is quite impressive this year, especially since the circuits are very different.

We now have to focus on the race, even if we only have little data. It will be necessary to use the work of Yuki tsunoda »
