Gasly: “The first stint will be complicated”

Pierre Gasly was not really satisfied with his performance in qualifying for the French GP on the Paul-Ricard circuit (Var). The pilot Red Bull failed in 9th place while Max Verstappen took 4th place with more than 6 tenths ahead of his teammate.

“I had good times in practice, but we changed things for qualifying which didn’t work. I lost a lot of grip and speed, explained the Red Bull driver. I had difficulty with the medium tires and so I had to use the soft compounds, which will complicate my start to the race and my first stint. I don't expect the others to start on softs and those in front will start on mediums. »

Pierre Gasly also closely follows the performances of his rivals, notably McLaren who placed his two cars in front of him.

“We didn’t expect to see such a tight peloton in the middle. The McLarens seem to have clearly found rhythm and we will have to watch them, admitted the Frenchman. Honda works tirelessly to bring us developments and we expect more. That of the weekend is not really noticeable behind the wheel, but we can count on a reliable engine from now on. We still lose a little against the blocks Mercedes et Ferrari."
