The Frenchman considers himself unfairly penalized at Silverstone and explains a lack of consistency in the decisions of the race stewards, with supporting examples. His model for having fights without FIA interference is MotoGP.

Gasly does not mince his words against the FIA: “A lack of consistency” on their part

Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso) don't lose your temper. French, penalized five seconds during the British Grand Prix for touching Sergio Pérez (Force India) and having gained an advantage two weeks earlier, fully assumed its critical position towards the International Automobile Federation (FIA) this Thursday.

The 2 GP2016 Series champion made an angry Tweet after losing 10th place at Silverstone. " Honestly, for 10 days I had difficulty digesting. Now, I am certainly focused on the two race weekends that are coming up, which are two opportunities to score points, but I fully mean what I said after the race. It’s my vision and that of the team as well”he says.

Pierre Gasly puts forward two incidents and the leniency of the commissioners on these clashes in Great Britain. “There is a lack of consistency on their part regarding these types of decisions. At the same Grand Prix, there was a collision between (Kevin) Magnussen et (Roman) Grosjean (Haas) at the start, Romain loses his wing, Kevin damages his car; there was also an accident between Grosjean and (carlos) Sainz Jr (Renault) which could have been much more serious than the touching between Sergio and me.

I'm not saying that (these actions) deserve penalties. If there isn't one, that's fine, but in that case, the incident I had doesn't deserve one either! In Austria, I had a more or less similar collision on the first lap. I had lost more than half of my flat bottom at the rear, but there had been no penalty. This is why there is no logic in this decision at Silverstone. Even though I still have plenty, it made me lose two points on my license, for this kind of excess... It's ridiculous. »

With current single-seaters, it is more difficult to overtake an opponent when braking, and Pierre Gasly wants the drivers to no longer be restricted by these penalties, unlike a certain two-wheel discipline. « And then we complain that nothing is happening F1 ! This time, I really had to fight to get (10th place), especially with the Force India which was much faster than us.

They (the FIA) asked my opinion, I explained that I loved this overtaking, it was a real fight, like what I saw when I was little compared to F1. It's part of the race. In MotoGP, that's what happens every weekend, and this makes the races fascinating. It should be the same for us. »

Asked about a possible adjustment of the marshals in relation to the leading drivers, such as the Mercedes or Ferrari, Pierre Gasly does not change his speech one iota. “Even with them, we see that it is not regular. From one weekend to the next, the same penalties are not applied. Knowing that there is a different race commissioner at each round, they judge in a different way and it comes to this.

It's a shame, because I think everyone wants to see the drivers brawl. We know how complicated it is to surpass yourself in F1, with the aero load, the tires, the differences in performance that we have... Overtaking on the straight with DRS open is not very exciting. » And it's not likely to get better with the mania for multiplying the DRS...
