4th during qualifying, gasly matched his best performance in performing a trick. The Alpha Tauri driver would have even done a little better if he had benefited from an aspiration in the last sector. The deficit would be 3 tenths according to him: “Being able to fight at the front is an incredible feeling. For several races, I have shown that I am capable of fighting for top 5 finishes. Here, I lost 3 tenths in the last sector so who knows with aspiration what would have happened. I just existed for tomorrow even if the race remains something different.”

After a few disappointing races at the start of the season, Alpha Tauri seems to have corrected the situation, even if the French driver is cautious about the improvements made by the Italian team: “It’s still too early to know why we walk like this. We will have to analyze whether the new features really work. This morning, we find ourselves 3 tenths ahead of everyone. There are so many different parameters: the tires, the circuit, the wind, the temperatures, so you have to be careful. It was a little cooler in qualifying and the behavior was a little different. “We had to adapt at the beginning but overall I’m very happy.”

The 25-year-old driver is betting on a one-stop race tomorrow on the streets of Baku: “There is a lot of degradation on the soft tires. Everyone seems to be heading to one stop so we'll see. We still have two new hard tires so that will allow us to adapt to all situations. We are going to play our card to the fullest.”
