Gasly: “A good result for a first qualifier”

Pierre Gasly achieved his main goal in Malaysian GP qualifying by reaching Q2. The (provisional?) replacement for Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso took 15th place on the Sepang grid, finishing less than two tenths behind his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr who will leave right in front of him.

“It was a positive session because I finished close to Carlos, a good result for a first, declared Pierre Gasly on Canal+. We have made good progress even if we are struggling a little in terms of performance. We were a little short of that to get to Q3, but it's the first time this weekend that I felt so comfortable in the dry. »

Pierre Gasly is trying to make the most of his first Grand Prix in F1 even if he has to deal with the pressure. The usual resident of the Team Le Mans in Super Formula hopes that the weather will work to his advantage.

“This session was a great moment for me and it went well, added Pierre Gasly. It's a weekend full of craziness and I'm trying to make the most of it, but I prefer to think about the fights to gain positions. I feel like I still have to progress. I hope it will rain because I also felt good in the car during FP1. A race with twists and turns would certainly benefit me. »

His result in Malaysia could influence the rest of his season. Pierre Gasly is fighting for the Super Formula title, but the final of the Japanese Championship takes place at Suzuka on the same weekend as the US GP in Austin (Texas).
