Gérard Lopez: “Grosjean has his place in F1”

There are only two meetings left in the GP2 calendar and Romain Grosjean is 25 points ahead of second place Giedo Van der Garde in the drivers' standings. With the title of champion almost in his pocket, the Frenchman can set about finding a driving seat in F1. With this in mind, Gérard Lopez pleads in its favor. The boss of Gravity (which manages the pilot's interests) believes that? “There is no doubt that Romain clearly has his place in F1 next year, with what he is showing in the GP2 Series”, according to comments made on Toile F1.

If it is true that the French driver can really claim a seat in F1, what are the possibilities available to him? Gérard Lopez as boss of Gravity says more about this: “We are working to try to get him into F1 next year. We are in discussions with several teams and contrary to what the current situation suggests, several seats within other teams are less fixed than it seems. Lotus Renault GP is of course a possibility, but I don't think for a moment that Robert won't come back next year. »

However, Gerard Lopez does not rule out a possible future for the Dams driver within Lotus-Renault GP if the Pole remains unavailable. “But if Robert doesn't come back, we have two options. Either hire an experienced pilot alongside Vitaly (Petrov), but there are not many experienced and contractually free pilots. The second option is to favor a young person, and Romain would then be ideal, especially since he is a Gravity pilot. But LRGP is not the only option. And if Romain returns to F1 next year, it must be with a team with a profile similar to that of Lotus Renault GP.

If there is no question of Romain Grosjean replacing Nick Heidfeld during the season, we can legitimately hope to see the Frenchman in F1 in 2012. Ultimately, does it all depend on Robert Kubica?
