Giovinazzi leads the first morning of tests 2

It was under generous sunshine that the second test began F1 pre-season, one which should allow us to sketch out a map of the forces present before the season kicks off in Melbourne in three weeks.

After 4 hours of driving on Tuesday, Antonio Giovinazzi is at the top of the rankings with a time of 1'18''589 signed using Pirelli's red (soft) C4 compound.

The Italian, who is preparing to compete in his first season as a starter after two stints with Sauber at the start of 2017, completed 56 laps and was ahead of the Red Bull RB15 with Honda engine Pierre Gasly of only 58 thousandths.

Note that the Frenchman was riding with the yellow C3 rubber (medium) during his best flying lap. Charles Leclerc completes the Top 3 four thousandths further with the Ferrari SF90, also shod with C3 tires.

After an imperial first week both in terms of performance and reliability, the Scuderia only covered 29 loops on Tuesday morning after having to carry out checks on the cooling system of its new creation.

Behind, Lance stroll wins the 4th fastest time at the wheel of the Racing Point RP19. The young Canadian was equipped with Pirelli development tires without markings when setting his morning benchmark.

Victim of repeated electronic problems during the first test, Haas this time starts off on the right foot with 84 laps covered by Kevin Magnussen, 5th at midday with white C2 tires (hard).

Author of the 6th time with the C3 compound, George Russell brings a little balm to the heart Williams, whose FW42 had a very upset start. The champion of F2 in title precedes Alexander albon (Toro Rosso-Honda), and Lewis Hamilton, who took to the track with a Mercedes W10 with new aerodynamic package and shot mainly with C2 rubbers.

The five-time world champion is among the most diligent students on Tuesday morning with 83 laps on the clock. Good regularity also among Renault with 80 rotations for Nico Hulkenberg. Author of the absolute reference of the first test in 1'17''393, the German must be satisfied for the moment with the 9th time with the C3 tire.

Lando Norris brings up the rear with the McLaren MCL34. The British debutant caused the only red flag of the morning following an excursion and has not appeared in action since.
