Giovinazzi stays with Alfa Romeo in 2020

Team Alfa Romeo will not change its driver duo for the 2020 season de Formula 1. This Monday, November 4, the day after a United States Grand Prix finished in 14th place, Antonio Giovinazzi was confirmed in his role alongside Kimi Räikkönen.

The 2 GP2016 Series vice-champion thus perpetuates the presence of an Italian driver on the starting grids for the second consecutive year. “I am so grateful for the incredible level of support from the team for my first full F1 campaign”, confides the man who had competed in two races at the start of 2017 replacing Pascal Wehrlein.

Antonio Giovinazzi, 14th in the championship with two rounds remaining, sets himself higher goals. “ We have learned a lot this season and I am sure we can make a big leap forward next year. I will no longer be a beginner, there will be no excuses for me.

I want to be competitive from the start of the season and I want to return the favor to the team, who have placed their trust in me. » His boss Frédéric Vasseur notes the progress made in recent months.

“The way he has integrated into the team and he has improved throughout the season are very promising factors. We can’t wait to unlock its full potential. His technical feedback, his work ethic and his positive approach will continue to help us progress, as will keeping the same driver duo. »

This announcement puts an end to the hopes of Nico Hulkenberg, the German, thrown out of Renault by Esteban Ocon, would indeed have liked to steal the Italian's seat. Without success.
