Austrian GP: Hamilton takes advantage of Rosberg's blunder

Nico Rosberg missed a great opportunity to take pole at the Austrian GP at Red Bull Ring. While Lewis Hamilton went into a spin in his last flying lap, the German went into the gravel trap in the last corner while he seemed faster than the Championship leader who signs his 45th victory in qualifying with 2 tenths ahead of his teammate.

Sebastian Vettel is the closest with 3 tenths of delay preceding Felipe Massa. Nico Hulkenberg will start from 5th row in front Valtteri Bottas et Max Verstappen. Daniil Kvyat took 8th place but will have to suffer a penalty of ten positions on the grid. Romain Grosjean was unable to participate in Q3 following a recurring hydraulic problem this weekend on the E23 Hybrid.

Pastor Maldonado failed at the gates of Q3 in front Marcus Ericson, Carlos Sainz Jr and Daniel Ricciardo which will start from the back of the grid following the engine change carried out. Fernando Alonso will also have to make a passage through the stands after having only taken 15th place, just like Jenson Button 17th between Sergio Pérez and Kimi Räikkönen trapped from Q1.

The Austrian GP race direction has confirmed the starting grid. Daniil Kvyat will start from 15th place, while Daniel Ricciardo will start from 18th place ahead of the McLaren by Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button.

As the sanctions could not be fully applied to the last three drivers mentioned, a penalty of 5 seconds will be applied to Daniel Ricciardo. Fernando Alonso will have to complete a drive-through, while Jenson Button will undergo a 10-second stop & go.

The Austrian GP will be followed this Sunday, June 21 from 14 p.m. live on AUTOhebdo.fr.
