The Las Vegas Grand Prix may be over on the track with the victory of Max Verstappen, but he will still be talked about for a long time. Many spectators will never forget their first visit to the new track in the heart of “Sin City”, but not for the right reasons.

Let's remember the facts: on the night of Thursday to Friday, when the first two Free Practice sessions were to take place, the public was only able to witness... eight minutes of driving. EL1s were canceled after the stall of a manhole which hit Carlos Sainz's car, while EL2 – postponed by 2h30 – took place behind closed doors after the evacuation of spectators “for logistical reasons”.

When we know the astronomical prices at which tickets for this event were sold, the anger of spectators is entirely justified. Especially since the Formula 1 offered in return a ridiculous $200 voucher to redeem in official stores…

Compensation received as an insult to spectators

And what was supposed to happen, happened: a collective, representing no less than 35 spectators, took legal action against the Las Vegas Grand Prix and its organizers. The law firms Dimopoulos and JK Legal & Consulting said they filed a Formula 000 Las Vegas Grand Prix class action lawsuit in Nevada state court Friday on behalf of people who purchased tickets for Free Practice 1 and 1. Formula 2 owners and race promoters Liberty Media Corporation, Las Vegas Grand Prix and TAB Contractors Inc. are named as defendants.

“There are a number of problems with this compensation, lawyer Steve Dimopoulos told Reuters. It’s clear that this $200 voucher is not enough reimbursement. A lot of fans probably don't even want it, they want their money back. There are also secondary questions: What about the people who came from out of town and paid huge sums for plane tickets and hotel rooms? » An excellent question that F1 and the Las Vegas Grand Prix will have to answer in court, with convincing answers…

200 dollars to buy merchandising, an illustration of the business that Liberty Media version of F1 has become. Even worse than the compensation for the simulacrum of an illustrious rainy Belgian GP... but the American lawyers are going to make the organizers of this Sin City 2023 GP cough up their dollars, we can really have absolute trust in them!
