Ahead of Miami GP, Günther Steiner notes 'much more interest' in Haas

The future seems to be brightening for Haas and Günther Steiner, after very difficult years @Florent Gooden / DPPI

Just a year ago, the future of the only American team in the paddock rested on the bank account of almost one person, with Dmitry mazepin, Nikita's father and owner of the Uralkali firm. With sporting results at half-mast, the future was not really bright for the team led by Günther Steiner. But this season, with the arrival of a new generation of single-seaters, the return of Kevin Magnussen and newfound performance, the future seems much more promising. So much so that the induction of a second race in the United States, in Miami, then a third in 2023 in Las Vegas, allows Haas and Günther Steiner to see good prospects – especially financial – for the future.

Finally an attraction for Formula 1 in the United States, and therefore for Haas?

Because if the American team lost a good part of its finances this season by separating from its title sponsor Uralkali, and at the same time from Nikita Mazepin who went hand in hand, the strong return of the Formula 1 in the United States seems to generate great benefits for Haas, which finally sees sponsors jostling at the gate.

“Yes, I saw the impact [of the arrival of the Miami Grand Prix on the 2022 calendar], confirms Günther Steiner. We have a lot more interest in partnerships, in sponsorship, everything has increased a lot. We can take a little time to see how it develops, but certainly having the race in Miami and adding a race in Las Vegas next year, a third race in the United States, will help all of this. »

Formula 1 will reap the benefits of this return across the Atlantic, that's for sure, but Haas will certainly benefit just as much. Thanks in particular to the appeal generated by the Netflix series “Drive To Survive”, Liberty Media has fulfilled a good part of its contract. Conquer a new market, which until then had never really given in to the temptation of Formula 1.

After experiencing varying fortunes with its sponsors in recent years, the sudden withdrawal of Rich Energy in the middle of the 2019 season and therefore this season, the separation with Dmitry Mazepin's company – who wishes to recover the 13 million dollars paid in 2022 while Haas demands an additional $8,6 million in compensation – the American team does not want to rush:

" We are not in a hurry, confesses the Italian. But the sport is in a good place right now. »

And Haas seems to be too, with a surprising eighth place in the constructors' championship and already 15 points in the bag. Even if for the moment, the American team has not found a title sponsor for the current season, nor for the next ones for that matter, it is seriously considering its future. Without falling into panic this time. Times are definitely changing.
