Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) won the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix ahead of pole sitter Max Verstappen (Red Bull) this Sunday July 10. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) signs his third consecutive podium on the Red Bull Ring circuit, ahead of his teammate George Russell. Esteban Ocon finished fifth in his Alpine.

The image has not occurred since the spring of 2003. It has in fact been 19 years since a Ferrari last crossed the finish line of a race in Austria; at the time, the circuit was not owned by Red Bull and was called A1 Ring, and the master of the Scuderia was the Red Baron, Michael Schumacher.

Nearly two decades later, Monegasque Charles Leclerc took on the role of leader of men within the Reds. The wearer of number 16 had been relegated to the role of foil during Saturday's Sprint Race, as Max Verstappen's speed was impregnable.

However, the French speaker is resourceful, as is his Italian car. From the 12th lap, a sumptuous overtaking maneuver became a key moment of the race. Faster than the Red Bull, the Ferrari then gained ground. Even the early stop of the outgoing world champion to stand out did not worry Charles Leclerc, who easily regained the advantage on the 33rd lap.

The greatest danger has finally come from within. As he prepared to strike the Dutchman, the engine of the Ferrari Carlos Sainz exploded, causing the Virtual Safety Car to burst in and a third passage through the pits for the leading duo.

Then, Charles Leclerc reported a faulty accelerator pedal. When the pilot had to release the pedal to brake before turns, the part did not return to its initial position; a light pressure was therefore always applied to the accelerator! Fortunately, this problem remained minor and “The Little Prince” was able to maintain a margin of a couple of seconds.

Places of honor for Haas and Ocon

For the second time in a row, the team Haas places its two cars in the top 10. An unprecedented performance for the American team, thanks to a Mick Schumacher transformed since his first points scored at Silverstone the previous week. The son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher even had the luxury of being quite ahead of his more experienced teammate Kevin Magnussen. Same satisfaction in the clan McLaren, with Lando Norris 7th and Daniel Ricciardo which is reassured via the 9th position.

Plagued by serious concerns on Saturday evening due to a fuel pump failure during the deceleration lap of the Austrian Sprint Race, Esteban Ocon (Alpine) was completely reassured and relaunched this Sunday. The Norman was at the foot of the podium for a while but had the wisdom to settle for fifth place behind the pair of Mercedes.
Starting from the last row following a mechanical breakdown and a powertrain replacement, Fernando Alonso had to make a third unforeseen stop at the end of the race and narrowly closed the top 10.

Among the competitors who will not have happy memories of the green hills of Styria is Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri). The Habs suffered not one, but two penalties of five seconds each, one for not having respected the limits of the track, the other for having sent Sebastian Vettel spin as they battled for 13th place

In addition Nicholas latifi (Williams, anonymous abandonment), Sergio Pérez also stopped along the way. The Mexican was hit by George Russell (Mercedes) in the crush of the first lap. His Red Bull being too damaged, the winner of the last Monaco Grand Prix preferred to throw in the towel.
