The much-anticipated and hoped-for duel took place. A new time. But often at a distance. Mind you, it’s in the spirit of the times. And that doesn't take away the smell of powder that has been wafting insistently since the start of the season. Some will perhaps regret that the struggle did not turn into direct confrontation, with the excesses that we know of. But it can't be settling scores at OK COTA all the time either. There has already been a lot of trouble this season between the two cowboys so we are being choosy about these new skirmishes. Because Max Verstappen et Lewis Hamilton sometimes found themselves sharing the same piece of American tarmac as if there were no longer any barrier gestures.
The celebrations began in Free Practice 2 with a wheel-to-wheel sprint that was as surprising as it was enjoyable.
