Grosjean has not yet given up on Renault

Romain Grosjean did not want to wait indefinitely the decision to Renault to take back Lotus or not F1 Team and preferred to sign with Haas which will arrive in 2016. The former GP2 Series champion was nevertheless enthusiastic about the idea of a return to the Losange as a manufacturer.

“It would have been good (to have a French driver at Renault), but my departure for Haas does not mean that I cannot come back one day, within three or four years. Renault is aware that they will need time to progress. I spent my whole career with them and it would have made sense for them to have a driver with experience with different engines”, commented Romain Grosjean on the official F1 website.

Romain Grosjean is aware that his departure for a new team is a gamble, but the French driver is relying on the alliance of the American team with Ferrari. “Life is a risk. Driving an F1 car is a risk, racing is a risk. Günther Steiner (the Team Principal) and Gene (Haas, the team owner) didn't tell me all the details about their project at the beginning, but that was enough for me to sign with them. They could create a surprise, an American team in F1 is already something big. And with Ferrari’s partnership, it’s a calculated risk”, added the Frenchman.
