Grosjean: Pirelli has made progress with rain tires

Romain Grosjean was able to make an initial assessment at the end of the morning's tests where he was able to test the new grooved tires from Pirelli. If the tires designed for wet weather from the Italian manufacturer were often criticized, the driver Haas noticed some interesting changes with the new mounts that are wider than the old ones used last year.

“It was quite interesting in the wet, recognized Romain Grosjean. There has been a lot of progress made since last year. We didn't have too much overheating on the rear axle and the temperatures were constant and we were able to raise them easily. »

“The intermediate tires are very effective on a lap, but they tend to destroy themselves a little quickly. We will still have to work on these rubbers. Generally speaking, it remains a good progression compared to last year.”, added the former GP2 champion.

Romain Grosjean also revealed the main reason which limited the drivers' running on the wet Barcelona track.

“It’s still early in the season and it’s always a risk for teams. We don't have many spare items and we always have to make do with what we have., explained the Frenchman. We weren't able to test the limits of aquaplaning and I imagine we'll have to realize that during a race weekend. »
