You didn't see it during the television broadcast of the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and yet, you missed the most beautiful overtaking of the season. Guanyu-Zhou (Alfa Romeo). In any case, this is what the Chinese driver expressed at the end of the event which ended in 12th place.

So in battle with the Williams byAlexander albon, the rookie initially let his opponent overtake him thanks to DRS on the very last lap of the race. Then, as Alexander Albon moved inside to protect his position, Guanyu Zhou immediately took the outside of turn 9, to accomplish a very nice maneuver:

« C’est le meilleur dépassement de ma première année en Formula 1, Guanyu Zhou judged. I'm so proud of this team, not just for this race, but for the entire season. We gave everything in the race and, although we didn't score any points, we achieved our goal, which was to finish sixth in the Manufacturers' championship.

We had to sacrifice my strategy to hold on in the final laps, and I think we did a good job. We really gave it our all, it was an incredible fight on the track with Alexander. We got what we deserved after such a long year. »

Guanyu Zhou ends his first year as a regular driver in F1 in 18th place in the Drivers' Championship with 6 points collected. “It was an incredible season, we started very strong with 10th place in Bahrain and it's nice to see that we finished in the same zone. Of course, it didn't always go as we hoped, we had some reliability issues, but I'm sure we will sort everything out this winter and have a much better season next year. »
