Haas denies copying the look of the Lotus JPS

The fashion is retro in motorsport. After the yellow and black liveries of Renault and papaya orange McLaren in 2018, Haas created a black and gold decoration for its VF-19 single-seater.

Two colors used on the cans of title sponsor Rich Energy, and which are fiercely reminiscent of the Lotus John Player Special in the 1970s and 1980s. “As you get older, you remember what you loved as a child, explains Günther Steiner, Team Principal.

This period, Those were the good old days and it was a fantastic era for F1 when (the Lotuses) were black and gold. Everyone gets a little sentimental about this time. It’s a livery that looks good. »

Haas However, it denies applying a simple copy and paste of the Lotus decoration (seen again between 2011 and 2015 in F1). “We added a little evolution with white (from the Haas logo and other sponsors), otherwise it would have been a total copy of the 1980s.”
