Häkkinen: “Pérez proved that everything is still possible”

After 10 years and 190 Grands Prix under his belt, Sergio Pérez won his first victory in Formula 1. A triumph that the Mexican achieved himself last Sunday on the Sakhir track.

Fallen 18th and last after his collision with Charles Leclerc in the first lap, the Racing Point driver showed patience and took advantage of the mistakes at Mercedes to climb to the top of the podium for the first time in his career.

« Sergio Pérez's victory at the Sakhir Grand Prix proved that in Formula 1, anything is still possible, writes Mika Häkkinen in his column for Unibet. The difference between success and failure is very slight. Looking back at his race, it should be noted that his stop resulting from the collision with Charles Leclerc allowed him to have a better race strategy ».

Pushed into error by the Monegasque, Checo was able to shift his strategy and thus begin his climb up the rankings until the final victory. “ It was impressive. Alex Albon or even Esteban Ocon who finished 2nd were not going to make the task easy but Sergio Pérez's pace was very high. He found himself in an excellent position when the Mercedes drivers encountered their problems ". Winner's luck.
