Hamilton crushes qualifying in Hungary

The gap at the end of the qualifying session is indicative of the clear domination of Lewis Hamilton in Hungary (Budapest). With a lead of almost six tenths over his teammate, the pilot Mercedes crushed the session this Saturday afternoon at the Hungaroring.

Dominant since free practice, the Briton gave the competition no chance, starting with Nico Rosberg, who could do nothing today to counter the double world champion who signed his ninth pole position of the season, the 47th of his career and the 5th in Hungary with a best time established in 1'22"020.

Behind a new 100% Mercedes front row, Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) showed himself to be the best of the rest by preceding his former teammate Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) who will not have repeated the performances of the RB11s interviewed yesterday in free practice, when the cars from Milton Keynes were ahead of the Ferraris.

Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) and Valtteri Bottas (Williams) will share the third row in front of Daniil Kvyat (Red Bull) and Felipe Massa (Williams). Max Verstappen (Toro Rosso) and Romain Grosjean (Lotus) who reached Q3 complete the top 10.

The Force India were unable to compete for the last part of qualifying, eliminated in Q2, just like Fernando Alonso, whose McLaren suffered a mechanical problem, stopping on the track and causing a red flag. No more success for his teammate Jenson Button, who was blocked in Q1.

The Hungarian Grand Prix will be followed live with commentary on our website tomorrow from 14 p.m.. Photos from the Hungarian weekend can be viewed here.
