Dreams of 8th title for Lewis Hamilton were broken by Max Verstappen in the 58th and final lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this Sunday. In the lead from the start, the Englishman was very close to a new coronation but the exit from the track Nicholas latifi and the intervention of the Safety Car reshuffled the cards at the end of the race.

Disadvantaged by worn tires, the Englishman was unable to do anything against the attack from the Batavian at the start of the last lap who did not miss the opportunity to offer himself a first world crown. Obviously shot down on arrival in the Parc Fermé, the pilot Mercedes However, he showed himself to be a good player, showing his usual elegance.

« First of all, congratulations to Max and his entire team, he said at first. I think we did a really good job this year. Everyone worked a lot for this season which was one of the most difficult. I am very proud of them and I am happy to be part of the adventure. We gave everything in this last part of the season. We never gave up, that's the most important thing. I have felt very good in the car these last few months and more particularly at the end (of the season). »

Asked to look forward to the next season while he is under contract with Mercedes until 2023, Sir Lewis Hamilton left a shadow of doubt about his future. “ We will see for next year », he confided to Jenson Button's microphone before returning to the podium, probably under the influence of disappointment. Enough to sow panic in the ranks of Brackley when we have not yet digested this terrible setback?
