The Mercedes were untouchable during qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel, the closest to the W07 Hybrid, failed half a second from the pole won by Lewis Hamilton, author of the new record on the Sakhir circuit with a lap completed in 1'29"493.
“The weekend didn’t start in the best way”, recognized the driver with 51 poles. “Nico (Rosberg) has been very fast since the first tests. I was aware that the last round of qualifying would be the most important. There car was once again very competitive and the progress made remains surprising. »
Lewis Hamilton, however, was almost beaten by his teammate Nico Rosberg since the winner of the Australian Grand Prix failed just 77 thousandths from pole.
“Lewis simply had a magnificent ride”, admitted the Championship leader. “I set a good time and I thought it would allow me to take pole. I remain confident to the extent that pole matters a little less than usual here, with strategies playing a big role in Grand Prix racing. »
