Hamilton included in TIME's 100 most influential people list

Lewis Hamilton is one of the 100 most influential people in the world, according to the famous TIME magazine, which has the habit of listing each year the men and women who move the lines in the 4 corners of the planet.

In a year 2020 marked by an unprecedented pandemic, a global fight against racial inequalities embodied by the “Black Lives Matter” movement, and an increasingly pressing climate emergency, Hamilton continues to use the platform offered to him by Formula 1 to express themselves on these burning social issues.

A leading figure in the fight against racism in sport, the pilot Mercedes convinced his team to change the livery of the 2020 Flèche d’Argent and is kneeling on the ground in peaceful protest before the start of each race. Hamilton is also vegan and an outspoken environmental activist for several years.

As is customary, Hamilton's portrait in the TIME list is signed by another personality, in this case Bubba Wallace, the only pilot of NASCAR black, who will drive a car fielded by basketball legend Michael Jordan in 2021

« As the only black driver in Formula 1, Lewis' example has special meaning to me, writes the 26-year-old runner. His activism moves the lines. Lewis shined the global spotlight on the Black Lives Matter movement.

His mental preparation, his aura, and his ability to seize the slightest opportunity to use the platform that is his in his fight against racism make him a model for other athletes. He is a source of inspiration for everyone ».
