Hamilton: “I took a big risk”

Si Lewis Hamilton could benefit from the penalties imposed on drivers Red Bull to win the pole of the Italian GP, the driver Mercedes attacked in his last attempt at Monza and set the absolute record for poles in F1 with 69 qualifying victories on the clock, one more than Michael Schumacher, ahead of his closest pursuers by more than a second.

“It’s hard to find the words to express how I feel. I can't believe so much time has passed. These experiences were incredible”, comments Lewis Hamilton on new record in F1.

“It was difficult to see anything on the track, to find the trajectories, adds Lewis Hamilton. The start of Q3 went well, but it got worse afterwards. I had a lot of pressure in the last lap. There could have been a yellow or red flag. I took a big risk but I gave it my all. »

“We had more grip with the wet tires. The water drained better, but the settings of the car were configured for dry track, recalls Lewis Hamilton. The car was therefore even more slippery and there was nothing we could do about it except knowing that the whole weekend would be rainy. It really complicates things. It's easy to miss the turn and fail to exit successfully. It’s an incredible challenge. »

Lewis Hamilton will start in front Lance stroll (Williams) and Esteban Ocon (Force India) having a great opportunity to take back important points from its rival Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) only 6th on the grid taking advantage of the Red Bull drivers' penalties.
