Lewis Hamilton won his first pole at the Monaco GP. The Mercedes driver will start ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton takes first pole at the Monaco GP

Lewis Hamilton offered himself the first pole of his career at the Monaco GP by achieving a time of 1'15"098 in the last qualifying session, 9 tenths better than the pole of Nico Rosberg carried out last year on the Rock. The German saw his hopes dashed when he failed to brake at Sainte-Dévote during his second attempt, a mistake he had already made in Q2.

Sebastian Vettel is closest to Mercedes still more than 7 tenths behind the reference. THE Ferrari surround the Red Bull de Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat, Kimi Räikkönen only in 6th place, half a second behind his teammate.

Sergio Pérez distinguished himself by lifting the first Force India to 7th place ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr and Pastor Maldonado. The Toro Rosso driver will, however, have to leave the pits following a penalty.

Romain Grosjean failed 8 thousandths from Q3 by ranking 11th behind Sergio Pérez. The Lotus driver, who will have to move back 5 places on the grid, is ahead by less than a tenth Jenson Button who could also hope for a top ten on the grid. Nico Hulkenberg ranked 13th ahead Felipe Massa only 14th. Fernando Alonso encountered a mechanical problem preventing him from qualifying.

Valtteri Bottas was eliminated in Q1. The pilot Williams only set the 17th time between the Saubers of Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson. The Manors of Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi brought up the rear.
