Heidfeld wants a top team

The Sauber driver will have to give up his steering wheel at the end of the 2010 season. But he cannot intend to stop there, after having carried out tests with Pirelli which could interest certain teams in the paddock. His main concern is finding the finances that will make it easier for him to find a steering wheel in 2011. “ I think I will succeed, but I can't be 100% sure », admitted the teammate of Kamui Kobayashi à Motorsport.

If Nick Heidfeld does not doubt his potential, he knows that his driving skills are not enough to guarantee him a contract. “ Unfortunately the F1 is not just a question of driving and talent, other factors come into play, factors that I do not yet have compared to other drivers. »

The German is particularly thinking of finding financial support for his future in F1. “ We are in discussions with sponsors who might be interested, but they want to see me drive first before taking the plunge. On the other hand, I have seen pilots announce that they will contribute up to $20 million. I don't understand how the teams can let themselves be fooled all the time. »

With two races remaining in the season, time is running out for the German. However, he is not ready to accept just any contract, looking for a reliable and competent team for next season. “ I think it's pretty easy to see the positions ", he added. " For example, I am not looking to join a very slow team. I think they're doing a good job, but I still don't want to go. »

Nick Heidfeld would have notably contacted Renault, Williams and Force India. But places are expensive in F1 and the German will have to jostle to get a seat.
