Helmut Marko: The Toro Rosso – Honda association can surprise

For the third time in three years, Toro Rosso will change engine manufacturer. After the Power Units Ferrari et Renault, the Italian structure will make common cause with the Japanese giant Honda, free of any commitment after the end of the adventure McLaren.

An association that seems daring at first glance for Franz Tost's men, given Honda's disappointing results after three years of collaboration with Woking.

However, optimism still remains for Helmut Marko, motorsport consultant of Red Bull. “We are very happy with the cooperation with Toro Rosso and Honda, specifies Marko on the website of the F1.

Toro Rosso will do everything possible to create a competitive chassis. We believe in Honda, otherwise we wouldn't have done this deal. I am very impressed with the facilities they have and their determination to win.

It's just a matter of putting everything together and we believe that this moment will come sooner than everyone expects. We will be watching this very closely. Beyond 2018, everything is open! »

Rumors of an association between Red Bull Racing and Honda remain alive, with Toro Rosso potentially serving as a life-size laboratory for Milton Keynes before potentially committing to the Japanese engine manufacturer by 2019.

A choice that could be made next spring, as implied Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull Racing.
