Honda questions the need to install upgrades to the Power Units used by McLaren at the Canadian Grand Prix contested on June 12 on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal. If Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button to get into the points at the Monaco GP, the Canadian track will give pride of place to the 6l turbo/hybrid V1.6.
“Power is clearly very important in Canada, it’s a circuit of braking and acceleration”, recalls Yusuke Hasegawa, the project director F1 within Honda. “Fuel consumption will also be an element to take into account. I obviously want to introduce changes, but we cannot decide. »
« A progression of 1 or 10% requires using that many development tokens and we would therefore prefer to use an evolution of 10%”, insists the Japanese. “We have obtained good results with certain developments tested on the bench in Sakura. »
Renault for its part decided to install its developments on the two RS 16s after having obtained promising results with its developments at the Monaco GP.
