Honda has no regrets

Less than a year after Honda withdrew from the Formula 1, the former team of the Japanese firm, bought for a symbolic pound by Ross Brawn, became F1 world champion, in the drivers' and constructors' rankings. Despite this result, the Japanese manufacturer does not regret its decision to withdraw. However, by continuing in F1 in 2010, Honda would have benefited from unprecedented exposure thanks to the success of the car de Brackley this season.

« We have no regrets, declared Takanobu Ito, general manager of Honda since the beginning of the year. After our withdrawal, we saw that our team was doing very well. This is why I think that all the efforts we made within this team before our withdrawal bore fruit. »

« There is one, Mr. Fakui (Mr. Ito’s predecessor, editor’s note) made the decision to retire from Formula 1 and I think it was the right decision. We loved racing in F1 but, more than that, we had to think about our society, adapt to the recession, comply with environmental needs. We had to develop new technologies. »

Takanobu Ito also admitted that he was happy that the former Honda team, now Brawn GP, had not suffered from power struggles. “ Usually when a manufacturer decides to pull out of F1 there are struggles and problems, but fortunately the team managed to get through this. It produced very good results and people seemed to be very happy, which is quite unusual. »
