Horner: this error must not be repeated

While Daniel Ricciardo was well on his way to winning the Monaco Grand Prix, the driver Red Bull was sentenced to second place behind Lewis Hamilton losing valuable time in the pits. His team did not prepare the new tires in time, causing the Australian to lose around ten seconds, although he was ahead of the driver. Mercedes.

“With things like this, it’s never easy to identify a particular responsibility.”, comments Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull Racing. “It is a combination of several factors which is at the origin: the stopping of Max (Verstappen), a canceled stop, a change of tires… All this contributed to a situation where the tires were not available in time. »

“It’s definitely very frustrating, but it’s not about pointing the finger at anyone.”, added the Briton. “We win and we lose together. It’s about understanding what went wrong, working to fix the problem, and making sure it doesn’t happen again. We are always at the limit in competition and that is what happened in Monaco. »

Christian Horner had to comfort his pilot who did not hide his disappointment at the end of the race.

“He was very emotional after the event and disappointed that he couldn’t turn such a performance into a victory. We cannot go back, but we can anticipate what will happen. He is third in the Championship and he will return to a venue that has been fantastic for him (at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, next week) where we hope to offer him a competitive car again., said Christian Horner.
