Hamilton – Red Bull: Horner persists but calms things down

According to Christian Horner, the Hamilton clan did indeed sound out Red Bull at the start of the season through Anthony Hamilton, the father of the seven-time world champion. The British leader nevertheless wanted to calm things down given the scale of this saga.

The saga between the family Hamilton and the clan Red Bull continues, on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. First episode Wednesday, in the Daily Mail, where Christian Horner states that Lewis Hamilton made contact with the Austrian team when he was in negotiations for his contract with Mercedes, at the start of 2023.

An assertion denied by the main interested party on Thursday, in the second episode: at a press conference, the British pilot even assured that it was Christian Horner himself who had asked him to come and accompany Max Verstappen at Red Bull.

Third episode this Friday: the day after Lewis Hamilton's statements, Christian Horner returned to the charge and named Lewis Hamilton's father, Anthony, as the person who had contacted him at the start of the season about a possible transfer to the reigning world champions.

Indeed, the Red Bull Team Principal claims to have received a message in the form of “leading question” from Father Hamilton. “I don't know what role Anthony plays in organizing or managing Lewis, but he must have some form of relationship with him, added the British leader. I don't think he was talking about himself coming to drive [at Red Bull]. »

Horner understands the interest of the Hamilton clan

If this saga has caused a lot of ink to flow, Christian Horner wants to calm things down, certifying that there had been no serious discussions and that there was in any case no place available alongside the triple world champion Max Verstappen. The director of the Red Bull team, however, did not fail to take a dig at the Mercedes clan in his response…

“It is completely normal for drivers, driver representatives and driver parents to have different conversations over the course of a season, puts Horner into perspective. I've known Anthony Hamilton for many years, he's a good guy. Let's face it, Lewis hasn't won a Grand Prix in two years. It's inevitable that questions will be asked in the paddock, but there has never been any engagement. He is the most successful driver of all time and has not won a Grand Prix since 2021. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to realize that. And I doubt I'm the only one who was asked. »

Ah Christian HORNER, always a good word to try to destabilize an opponent... and this is not new, as I'm used to the "margin of sharks" that the F1 paddock has become over the decades!
