Horner: F1 needs Dietrich Mateschitz

Christian Horner returned to the latest statements from the boss of Red Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz, who made a big splash in the Austrian GP paddock. The businessman reiterated his threats to withdraw Red Bull from the discipline, upset by the lack of results with the Power Unit Renault and the superiority of Mercedes.

Si Bernie Ecclestone not worried about Red Bull's future in F1, Christian Horner is more alarmist. “Dietrich Mateschitz does not often speak in public. Everything he says leaves no room for interpretation because he says what he thinks, ensured the Team Principal of Red Bull Racing in The Telegraph. “He is a fan who has been heavily involved in Red Bull marketing in F1, not only with Red Bull but also with Sauber and young driver programs for over 20 years. »

Christian Horner is convinced that the presence of Red Bull is necessary for F1 at a time when the discipline is going through a difficult time. « The risk for F1 is to see someone like Dietrich no longer like it. This is rather worrying because we need such commitments. He runs a multinational company that doesn't exist because of F1. If discipline does not respond to him, he will ask questions. He is concerned about the situation in terms of the regulations and his two teams”, added Christian Horner.

Christian Horner also denied being in the hot seat, after an article in The Times suggested the Briton could be replaced by Gerhard Berger.
