Horner highlights out-of-nowhere ride for Ricciardo

This pole position should undoubtedly erase some of the disappointments of Daniel Ricciardo This year. Forced to retire seven times in 2018, the Australian Red Bull Racing found the right formula yesterday in Q3 in qualifying in Mexico, without encountering technical problems which this time affected Max Verstappen.

Enough to offer a 100% Red Bull Racing front row, a first since the United States 2013, the end of the golden era of Sebastian Vettel and naturally aspirated V8s. Which did not fail to delight Christian horner, boss of the Milton Keynes stable.

“What a huge last ride, admits the British official. The second sector and the third sector, he accomplished them perfectly. It really came out of nowhere.

He was a few tenths behind all weekend, then suddenly on his last set of tires: boom. It's just absolutely perfect. You could hear how happy he was on the pit lap. I'm really happy for him. »

It remains for the two Red Bulls to contain the world title contenders Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), who will share the second row, while hoping to get between the two RB14s at the first corner, taking advantage of the slipstream in particular.
