Horner: Red Bull remains focused on 2018

Red Bull et Renault will end the 2018 season with twelve years of a fruitful collaboration, punctuated by eight world titles (four manufacturers and four drivers between 2010 and 2013). It is Honda, already supplier to the Red Bull satellite team, Toro Rosso, which will bring its Power Unit in the future car Austrian.

A choice made, according to Christian Horner, after a careful study of the data collected by Toro Rosso. “We have been in a privileged front-row position to closely study how Honda is progressing with our sister team Toro Rosso., indicates the Team Principal of Red Bull Racing.

It has been good to see how they have evolved and we have come to the conclusion that Honda has made good progress in terms of performance and reliability. And so we made the difficult decision to change engines after twelve seasons. »

Still focused on 2018

This announcement of a change of engine manufacturer could lead Red Bull Racing to shift its resources to its 2019 project to better integrate the V6 turbo/hybrid Power Unit and its characteristics, but Christian Horner specifies that the racing season remains the priority for Daniel Ricciardo et Max Verstappen.

« We are focused on 2018, with a significant chance in both championships, emphasizes Horner. We have won two Grands Prix so far this year, we are third among the constructors, and there is still a long way to go.

So we are going to attack until the end, and we are going to count on the support of Renault until the end of the year, which I am sure they will do without fail, as they have done for 11 seasons. And our priority is to continue our series this year. »
