Horner: Renault has made progress with its engine

With a fourth place of Daniel Ricciardo won at the Australian Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing made a good start to the season even if the weekend was tarnished by the retirement of Daniil Kvyat following an electronic problem.

While the Milton Keynes team expected to see the second team Toro Rosso more efficient in the first part of the season, finishing at the foot of the podium is a positive result for the Taureau Rouge which recognizes that the Power Unit of Renault (rebadged Tag Heuer) evolved during the winter break while Losange was the engine manufacturer having used the fewest development tokens.

“The Power Unit clearly progressed during the winter”, recognized Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull Racing. “There is still a way to go, but it is already positive to obtain progress in terms of performance, especially in racing. I hope this will motivate the staff to move in the right direction. »

The Briton believes Red Bull Racing is just behind Mercedes et Ferrari in the hierarchy at the start of the season. “We definitely have the third car, especially in racing. It's encouraging. It's not yet where we want to be, but it's motivating to see that the car has progressed compared to last year and that we have a good basis to work from, added Christian Horner.
