Horner worries about engine regulations

With the 2017 regulations regarding aerodynamic changes, the study of cost reduction, power convergence and increased noise for Power Units is at the center of behind-the-scenes discussions in F1.

Discussions which do not seem to be going in the right direction currently, as admitted by Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull Racing at a press conference this Friday in China.

“I think it's a complex situation, but basically there are four criteria that have been requested by the governing bodies to move forward: a significant reduction in costs to €12 million, the availability of engines or guarantee of supply, convergence of powers within a relatively narrow deviation range and noise, comments Horner.

We are a long way from meeting any of these criteria and I think unfortunately what will happen is, as is often the case with these things, the clock will run out to the end of the month and no goals will be met and nothing will change. There will be an attempt at the end of the month to discuss and explain the concerns and where we stand, but otherwise the regulations will inevitably remain as they are. »
