In the city of games, Pierre Gasly (Alpine) lost, while the Norman was well placed to win the Grand Prix of Las Vegas. For most of the race, the Frenchman was fighting for his place in the top 5, and spent several laps in fourth position.

Unfortunately, an intervention by the safety car ruined his chances when he had just changed tires. Faced with opponents equipped with newer tires, Pierre Gasly could do nothing except suffer and slip beyond the points, to 11th place.

“We were hoping for a lot more, after getting off to a good start and finding ourselves in the leading group, declared Pierre Gasly at the microphone of Canal+. With the hard tires in the second half of the race it was impossible, I was understeering, I had no grip and no top speed. It's frustrating because there were a lot of opportunities to look for. You have to try to understand what went wrong with the tires. »

Pierre Gasly didn't have much fun this Sunday in Las Vegas. “It was a defensive race, I spent my time defending my position. » Including against his own teammate, Esteban Ocon, who finished at the foot of the podium.

“We knew there was an opportunity in front of us, a fourth or even a third place to go for. I tried to defend my rank as much as possible to get a good result, but unfortunately it was impossible. »

Pierre Gasly hopes to return to the top 10 next weekend in Abu Dhabi, venue for the final of the 2023 F1 season. “It’s frustrating for me, especially after the great qualifying on Saturday (5e) but we will work and come back stronger next week. »
