Hülkenberg still in the dark for 2014?

Nico Hulkenberg has proven time and time again that he deserves his place on the grids for the 2014 season of F1. The Sauber driver ended his season with a good eighth place in the Brazilian Grand Prix at the wheel of the C32 whose performance was more than disappointing this year. The German knows that he is attracting several teams but his main fault is not being supported by powerful financial backers at a time when several teams are struggling to make ends meet.

“I have proven enough on the track that I deserve to be there and fight for victories one day”, he said on Sky Sports. “I love my job, I love F1, I definitely want to be there in the future and I think I have a very good chance of staying there. It might not be the best situation from my point of view to not have a few million reasons to look for a job next year. I think there are teams who evaluate what I do and who are ready to take drivers without big budgets. I am optimistic about my presence next year. »

If Nico Hülkenberg is considered at Force India alongside Sergio Pérez, no decision has yet been confirmed and discussions still appear to be ongoing. “Lotus must get out of its financial problems with their new investor (Quantum Motorsports) and I understand that it has not yet materialized”, adds Nico Hülkenberg. “I need to find a good contract whose terms are attractive to me and which will offer me a competitive package for next year. It's a bit like what I did this year with Sauber because I was hoping to achieve good things, but we found ourselves in a bad position from the start. We were quite far from what I expected. There are many questions because we are starting a new chapter and we cannot rely on this year's performances for the next season because there will be many differences. To avoid getting lost in the multiple scenarios, you sometimes have to be a little spontaneous and choose with your eyes closed. »
