Hülkenberg draws the positives from the VJM05

Nico Hülkenberg completed 90 laps during the final test session at Jerez to make up for time lost the day before with the exit of Jules Bianchi. For the German, the main thing is that the VJM05 represents a good basis for development.

Hülkenberg draws the positives from the VJM05

Force India missed a full day of testing last Thursday at Jerez when Jules Bianchi damaged the VJM05 following a track exit early in the morning. Nico Hulkenberg was therefore in charge of stringing together the laps yesterday to make up as much time as possible. At the end of the 90 laps, the German achieved the seventh fastest time, concentrating on running rather than on the performance of his new car. If part of the delay was able to be recovered, the Indian team will still regret the lack of testing against the other teams.

“I mainly had to string together the laps to get rolling and catch up on the delay I had made the day before the day before, rather than concentrating on simple performance”, explains Nico Hülkenberg. “I think we have a good basis to work from now. The chassis looks good and we have a pretty good platform to start our development on, so the overall feeling is pretty positive. It took me a while to feel comfortable behind the wheel after more than two months of absence. The accident (of Jules Bianchi) is frustrating because you can never completely recover lost time, but these things happen. We still have room to improve and a lot of work lies ahead. »
