Imola remains hopeful to host a Grand Prix in 2020

Since 2006 and a victory of Michael Schumacher with Ferrari, the Imola circuit no longer hosts the world championship F1, leaving only Monza as a land of pilgrimage for fans.

A route used yesterday by the Team Alpha Tauri to complete a day of driving with the AT01 and the STR13 for its two drivers Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat, before the official resumption of the debates at the beginning of July in Austria.

The Russian driver also believed, regarding the scene of the San Marino Grand Prix, that the track “should be part of the F1 calendar. » An idea that has been making headway within the circuit's governing bodies for several weeks, in the particular context of the calendar changes.

“Looking to the future and keeping an eye on the local economy at this time of serious crisis, our aim is to bring the big series back to Imola, comments Formula Imola president Uberto Selvatico Estense.

The most logical and appropriate solution for Formula 1 fans around the world would be to use circuits with high media impact like Imola, perhaps with Monza and Mugello for a legendary national triptych.

We have started working with great dedication and passion on this hypothesis with local and regional institutions and F1 since April this year and we hope that the national sporting authority will also support our candidacy for this season. »

In a season largely disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, and faced with the necessary change of calendar, Monza will remain scheduled on its usual date of early September.

But beyond this deadline, no information has yet filtered out on the continuation of the debates, and given the progression of the epidemic around the world, it is difficult to know whether the possibilities of visiting other continents will be numerous.
