The appointment of James Vowles as head of Williams Racing, no one really saw it coming. The name of the emeritus chief strategist of Mercedes had in fact never been the subject of speculation for the position, as we imagined him rather continuing his rise to power near Brackley, where he took up residence at the time when the team was still called Honda .

Toto W. feeling a little obliged to justify himself, isn't this half-heartedly admitting that he is a bit maneuvering to send JV to train elsewhere with a view to his succession? A good manager always knows how to prepare for his succession as best as possible...
