Jamie Chadwick has no shortage of ambition. The Briton, double reigning champion of the W Series (and in the running for a 3rd crown this year), still aims to arrive in Formula 1 medium term. “I think my goal is definitely to try to get there within five years, declared the 24-year-old driver following her Indy Lights tests with Andretti. There are a lot of things I need to accomplish in that time frame, but my goal is always to try and go through the right promotional rounds and have success in that area to be in Formula 1 within five years . »

Member of the academy Williams, Chadwick is one of the most highly rated drivers in car Currently. The Englishwoman currently seems best placed to hope for a seat in the higher categories and would like to become the first woman to drive in a Grand Prix since Lella Lombardi in 1976. The last woman to have taken the wheel in an official session was Susie Wolff, who took part in Free Practice 1 at Silverstone in 2014. However, the road is still long, very long, before hoping to obtain a place on the grid. F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali said last August that it would take a meteoric rise through the ranks for a woman to reach Formula 1 within five years.

"SIf I have success in good promotional series, I will be in Formula 1” Chadwick believes

Words which did not dampen the young British driver, on the contrary. Jamie Chadwick explained that Domenicali's comments didn't really bother her and provided additional motivation. “I know that if I have success in the good promotional series, I will be in Formula 1,” replied the W Series champion. That's my goal at the moment, I'm trying to get there and use the platforms that I have to rely on the people who believe in it and who really consider that it's possible, because these people exist. Even people like Andretti gave me the opportunity to try, they believe in it. »

Jamie Chadwick had the opportunity to test with the Andretti team across the Atlantic, in the Indy Lights category, on the Sebring circuit. A test which " pleasantly surprised " the English driver, who said a year in America could put her in a good position to take the next step. “The options are open. There Formula 3, Formula 2 and Indy Lights are the options I considered, she detailed. Discussions are underway in Europe and America. »
