In Canada, Charles Leclerc saw Max Verstappen increase the gap in the championship. For the 4th time in a row, the Monegasque conceded points on the Batavian who continues to take the lead weekend after weekend. Despite this delay of 49 points in the championship, the driver Ferrari did not appear disillusioned in Montreal where he moved up from 19th to 5th place after his numerous engine penalties.

« We take the points and focus on Silverstone where I hope everything goes well and we can fight for the win, explained Charles Leclerc at the microphone of Canal +. I will believe in it until the end. We focus on ourselves. We had problems, we need to resolve them to move on. We had to achieve the best possible result starting from 19th place and I consider that we did it. You have to concentrate on the next one to take big points »

Alesi fully behind Leclerc

Former driver of the house and winner of his only Grand Prix under the colors of the Scuderia (Canada 1995), Jean Alesi took stock of the situation of the Monegasque. In Canada, despite the obstacle that stood before him, the captain of the French FFSA Circuit team saw Charles Leclerc confident in himself and above all with a rested mind for the rest of the 2022 season.

« He is right to be optimistic, wrote Jean Alesi in his column in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. A championship as busy as this one puts strain on gearboxes, engines, hydraulic systems, etc. Everything."

After 9 Grands Prix in this 22-round season, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen are tied. The two men were in fact forced to abandon the race twice due to reliability problems. If Ferrari seems more in trouble regarding spare parts and possible penalties, Jean Alesi thinks that the rivals of the Reds will also not escape these worries.

« Technical problems have already appeared and will appear for all teams, we are not even halfway through the championship, insists Jean Alesi. There will be plenty of time and opportunity to catch up, starting with the next round at Silverstone, a circuit that makes champions shine. » That's good, Charles Leclerc remains on two podiums in a row. Last year, he even believed in victory before Lewis Hamilton does not catch him three laps from the checkerboard.
