Jean-Eric Vergne optimistic for the Montreal race

After a first day marked by battery problems for Jean-Eric Vergne, and Power Unit problems for Kvyat, Toro Rosso raised the bar in qualifying with another STR9 in Q3, that of the Frenchman, finally 8th ahead of the McLaren by Jenson Button and the Ferrari by Kimi Raikkonen. Enough to make the Habs optimistic for this evening. “Yesterday we did well in qualifying. The fight is tight in the peloton so we really had to put out the perfect lap, get the most out of the car. With the team, we managed to achieve our objectives and it is a result that rewards all the work we have put in. Starting from 8th position on the grid is very promising and I will do my best to finish the race and bring home some good points. » However, it will be necessary to monitor cars powered by Mercedes who follow the car of JEV, like the Force India, very fast in a straight line.

The session went less well for the other single-seater from the Faenza team, since the young Russian Daniil Kvyat only took 15th position. “I’m disappointed with how my qualifying went today. After yesterday's limited running, the team worked hard all night and everything seemed to be working well in FP3. Then, during qualifying, I found the car difficult to drive and experienced some brake problems. I'm sure we will race well. It's not ideal to start 15th, but as always, I'm going to give my best. »

The Cananda Grand Prix will start at 20 p.m. French time and can be followed live on our website.
