Jean-Eric Vergne test driver for Scuderia Ferrari

The outlines of the future of Jean-Eric Vergne are now defined. After having left Toro Rosso at the end of the season, replaced by the Dutch Max Verstappen, the 24-year-old Frenchman had recently evolved into Formula E with Andretti Autosport in Uruguay. But this Friday, the Team Ferrari made Vergne official in the role of test pilot, with the main role of developing the car on the home simulator.

“I feel very honored to join the Ferrari family and be part of the most prestigious team in the history of Formula One, says Vergne. The objective is clear to everyone, to help the Scuderia return to the top step of the podium. With two years of work in the simulator for a top team (that of Red Bull, Editor’s note) and three seasons of racing with Toro Rosso, my experience will add to the great efforts currently being made to get back on the path to victory. I look forward to realizing my dream of becoming a member of the Ferrari team and having the fans behind me every step of the way. »

“On behalf of the entire team, I would like to welcome Jean-Eric, who I am sure will make an important contribution to our development work in the simulator,” said the Team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene. He will take part in a program aimed at improving important areas, reinvigorating and strengthening an already strong and competent group of professionals. »

The Frenchman will take the place of the Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa, leaving from Scuderia Ferrari. He joins the long line of French pilots who have worn the famous red jumpsuit, including Rene Arnoux, Didier Pironi, Patrick Tambay, Alain Prost, Jean Alesi, or Jules BIanchi.
