Jenson Button 'pragmatic' before Barcelona

McLaren still fails to aim for the forefront after four Grands Prix contested even if the British team managed to place its two cars in the top ten in Bahrain. The Woking single-seaters also put on a show, Sergio Pérez having adopted a more aggressive driving style on the Sakhir track to beat his teammate Jenson Button. The 2009 world champion, who moderately appreciated the Mexican's maneuvers, is impatient to return to Barcelona on a track where each team has solid bases for comparison after having carried out a good part of the winter tests on the Catalunya circuit. “The start of the European season in Spain always feels like a new start to the year. You suddenly feel at home. The team struggled to make consistent progress in the first four races, but I think returning to a circuit where we completed two winter testing sessions will give us a basis to look at our progress. »

With a three-week break between Bahrain and Barcelona, the teams have time to work in depth on their cars and make important changes to the Spanish Grand Prix. However, Jenson Button remains cautious about McLaren's margin of progress, even though it is used to making a strong comeback in the middle of the season. “There has been a lot of discussion about the importance of the developments for the next weekend”, admitted the Briton. “But for each development, it’s just a part of the continued progress made throughout the year. As always, we will have some things that will work, some that may work in a different way, and some that won't work or may need further work. This is the life of F1 modern. So I remain pragmatic about what we will discover next weekend. But obviously, I hope we get closer to our destination. »
