Jenson Button hails a “small but real improvement”

Jenson Button and his McLaren MP4-28 regained color this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps. Comfortable in the changing conditions during the various practice sessions, the 2009 world champion won a few additional points thanks to his 6th place. obtained in the race. A result obtained despite a change of strategy in the middle of the Grand Prix: “We were trying to only pit once at the start of the race, explains the Briton. Then we adapted for two stops later. We tried, but our pace is still not as good as that of the cars in front of us, so we couldn't really catch up with them at the end of the race. »

While there is still work to be done for the Woking team to get back on the podium, Button feels that things are going in the right order. “In terms of performance, there has been a small but real improvement, so we should be happy with the progress we have made, believes the native of Frome, who won in Belgium last year. I'm quite happy with how the car is handling, actually, and the good thing is that we know what areas we need to focus on now. »

Now eager to go to Monza, “another great circuit”, the thirty-year-old sets out objectives that are both realistic and optimistic. “We are not going to fight at the front, we know that. Instead, we're going to focus on ourselves, gradually getting to know the car better and gradually improving things. There are still plenty of Grands Prix left, and we can enjoy some of them, I'm sure. »
