Jerez: Vettel in the lead, Mercedes down

The time of 1'20"984 was not beaten on the second day of winter testing in Jerez. La Ferrari SF15-T led by Sebastian Vettel stay in mind of the timesheet after having completed more than 80 laps. Once again it is the Sauber C34 which is the closest, with Felipe Nasr falling eight tenths behind the benchmark. There Williams de Valtteri Bottas completes the top three by more than a second.

If the end of the day was disrupted by a downpour, fourth place in the Mercedes is not to be attributed to the weather. Lewis Hamilton dismounted due to hydraulic leak after completing 91 laps. The W06 Hybrid remains by far the most diligent since it completed nearly 250 laps in two days.

La Toro Rosso STR10 Max Verstappen is more than three seconds from the reference, but the Dutchman was able to accumulate the kilometers with the Power Unit of Renault. Pastor Maldonado also spent time behind the wheel of the Lotus E23 before seeing his session end with a transmission problem. The day remains more positive than for McLaren who only completed six laps with Jenson Button. The second session was also complicated for Daniil Kvyat who was unable to set a single time without a front wing.

The drivers scheduled for the third day are: Nico Rosberg (Mercedes), Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), Felipe Massa (Williams), Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari), Fernando Alonso (McLaren), Carlos Sainz Jr (Toro Rosso), Pastor Maldonado (Lotus) and Felipe Nasr (Sauber).
